- The upper catchment of the North and South Pine Rivers is part of the undeveloped areas of Brisbane Forest Park and Bunyaville State Forest
- The mid reaches flow through rural residential areas, before entering the highly urbanised lower catchment
- The North Pine River is impounded by North Pine Dam to form Lake Samsonvale. Another impoundment, Lake Kurwongbah, is situated on a tributary of the North Pine River
- Residential development is the major pressure on the catchment

- Substantial improvement in the Fish indicator, and slight improvements in the Physical/Chemical, Ecosystem Processes and Aquatic Macroinvertebrates indicators.
- Nutrient Cycling yielded a particularly low score for autumn 2009.
