Implementation & monitoring
Implementation and monitoring of the South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Strategy (the Strategy) will be underpinned by rigorous and independent science, and will be informed by advice from a Scientific Expert Panel.
Implementation
Partners that have committed to
actions during development of the Strategy will be responsible for implementation.
During 2008-09, Partners have worked to progress the implementation of their committed actions in the Strategy. The work has progressed despite organisational changes resulting from local council amalgamations and the restructure of the SEQ water industry.
More detailed achievements resulting from Strategy actions are provided in the 2009 Ecosystem Health Report Card Sub-Regional Summaries
Monitoring and evaluation
The Strategy will be monitored and evaluated by the
South East Queensland Healthy Waterways Partnership Office. The Partnership Office will work with individual Partners to track progress using a management action database.
Changes in aquatic ecosystem health resulting from the Strategy will be assessed through the Partnership’s Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program (EHMP). The EHMP produces an annual Report Card and detailed technical reporting on waterway health.
In 2009, the Partnership Office began working with Partners to confirm and update the actions in the Strategy. This work highlighted the wide scope of Strategy actions and the investment required to deliver them.
At the same time the Partnership Office reviewed the need for an appropriate decision support tool to assist with tracking the efficacy of management actions.
A working group of Local and State Government, industry and community representatives was established. It has been a major challenge to link the outcomes of a management action to the achievement of the Strategy’s Resource Condition Targets and Management Outcomes given the many variables affecting these outcomes. Therefore, this work will continue through 2010.
